Cinema Sunday

Cinema Sunday

Sunday is my day to take it easy, go to the beach or relax in the Jacuzzi, and go to the movies.

Having seen “Just go with it” and “Friends with benefits” in the last week, both fairly light offerings, I’m tossing up between more fluff in Burlesque and The Rite which stars Anthony Hopkins and looks to be both powerful and scary. I might need more than coffee and a donut to calm my heart after that one! There are 4 sessions of The Rite daily but only 2 of Burlesque, both in the evening, so I’d say it’s about to finish and maybe it’s best I catch it now. I have heard mixed reports about it, but for 35 pesos I can afford to make up my own mind.

I have finished 2 of the 3 books I borrowed from the mobile library last Sunday, but The Source is an epic of 1078 pages of very small print, I’m about 1/3 of the way through and I reckon it will take me at least until the next Sunday. However I’ll pick up a few light novels to have on hand just in case.

But Sunday turned out to be a rainy day and pleasantly cool - not cool enough for a cardigan, but blessedly no humidity.

I decided to put a colour in my hair, and while it was working I made myself pancakes for breakfast, with freshly-squeezed orange juice, yoghurt and milky cappuccino it was quite a feast. The colour, which said on the box it was dark copper blonde, turned out to be quite a bright red which was a bit of a shock, but it didn’t cover my chocolate brown foils so together it actually looks really nice. Just as I was thinking about going out the rain started to come down heavier, so I decided the time was right to break out the TV and DVD player and get them set up.  It took about an hour by the time everything was connected and working, then I put on Burn The Floor’s Floorplay to check it was all working OK. At the moment the TV is still on the floor, but the TV unit is supposed to be arriving tomorrow afternoon so I can ask the delivery men to help me lift it onto the unit. It’s not actually that heavy and I could probably do it myself but why take the chance I might drop it? I’m really pleased with the picture and definition, it’s a full 1080p HD and I have set the DVD to the same, so it’s remarkably clear. I can also play the few Cds I brought with me on the DVD player. Another job ticked off the list.

I also dragged out the 10kg of potting mix I had bought and repotted the bougainvillea & the palm into their own pots, and the croton, aloe and cordyline into a long tub. They are now out on the balcony enjoying the fresh air and their first rain.

By 5pm the rain seemed to be clearing, so I prepared for my departure to Plaza Maya. I probably wouldn’t have bothered just for the movies cos I can go any day, but the mobile library is only there on Sunday afternoons and I do need more books to keep me going for the week.

PS Loved Burlesque, great music and dancing. Have 2 new books which look very interesting “A thousand splendid suns” and “The memory keeper’s daughter”. Ate a large donut and drank 2 cups of vanilla latte. Also found a bargain at the supermarket - a 51cm backpack with trolley wheels which will be perfect for short trips away or to use as cabin baggage. It came with a smaller overnight bag just the right size for my laptop, and a toiletry bag (which I had just been thinking today I forgot to bring and needed to buy). All of this for only 149 pesos ($12.50), reduced from 590 pesos.
All in all, a most pleasant Sunday. The Carnaval seems to have finished, or at least there is no music blaring into my bedroom so I can sleep soundly (until the builders start hammering at 7am, that is!).
